Recent Fires Spark Special Fire Drill

Two recent fires at Seniors Homes in Alberta and B.C. have prompted one PWL facility to hold a special fire drill supervised by the fire department.

Dana Lamoureaux, General Manager at the Gardens in Grande Prairie, says the planned fire drill will help staff and residents practice their evacuation skills and identify areas they could improve. She says fire drills are held regularly but the recent fires have heightened people’s awareness.

Life Outside the Gardens Full of Adventure

Dana Lamoureaux has a busy life outside the Gardens at Emerald Park, where she spends her days.

The General Manager and her husband are hobby farmers who recently branded eight baby cows they helped bring into the world about six weeks ago. This was the first year branding the 200-pound animals at home.

A weeklong tribute to seniors and the contributions they make begins Monday June 4 and continues through June 10 as part of Senior’s Week.

A pool cue mounted on a plaque now hangs in the activity room where Dale Edgars spent his mornings happily playing pool.

The fitting tribute was organized by Edgar’s friends Jack Frey and Jim Gow; Gardens residents who spent many hours sinking balls with their friend.

Fun, Food & Fabulous Hats

Residents of the Gardens at Emerald Park dressed up in their finest to enjoy Easter tea and a spread befitting of royalty.

Doris, a temporary cook from Southbend, Fort Saskatchewan, prepared a finger food feast that included chocolate dipped strawberries, mini cheesecakes, mini lemon meringue tarts, devilled eggs, mini garlic chicken pizzas, fresh fruit, cookies and mini cupcakes.

Bingo winners were Rose Horvath, Evelyn Johansen and Moira Aspel.
