Visit by miniature horses generates
maximum affection among residents

What’s not to love about miniature horses? They have the elegance and beauty of their full-sized cousins, and standing at just under 3-feet tall (at the shoulders) they exude cuteness. Three minis recently visited Points West Living Lac La Biche, and they won the hearts of residents and employee care partners alike.

Cake and noisemakers take centre stage
at PWL Lac La Biche New Year’s Eve Bash

Residents and care partners really got into the swing of things for the New Year’s Eve party at Points West Living Lac La Biche. Cook Kathy Roy made a cake celebrating the day – and all residents who had a December birthday. There were drinks for toasting and party hats. And it was a true community-wide celebration.

New GM for PWL Lac La Biche is an active
long-time local resident

Points West Living Lac La Biche has a new General Manager, Iona Wolstenholme. Iona was part of the administrative team when the community opened in the spring of 2018. As office administrator, she worked closely with the General Manager, to establish operations then transition to day-to-day management. So, when the GM position came up, she was happy to take it on.

Every month, a group of playschool children drops by Points West Living Lac La Biche for a playdate. Residents enjoy their time with the tots, watching, laughing, chatting, interacting, and – always a highlight – getting to hold one of the wee ones for a few moments.

Residents' stories steal the show at the
Grand Opening of PWL Lac La Biche

Even though Points West Living Lac La Biche began welcoming residents back in June, the community held its official ‘grand opening’ on September 27. Two current residents shared their impressions of life at PWL Lac La Biche, and their heartfelt speeches were the highlight of the event.

New supportive living residence now open in Lac La Biche

A new supportive living residence is helping to meet Lac La Biche’s growing and changing needs for seniors care and adults living with disabilities. The new community opened to residents on June 11, 2018 and is located at 9210 – 91 Avenue.

Christmas comes early to PWL Lac La Biche

Brent Hughes, the manager of food services for Points West Living Lac La Biche was the first to stir things up by suggesting he’d like to prepare the residents a traditional Christmas turkey with all the trimmings – in the middle of summer. Other employee care partners and residents were quick to jump on the idea, and soon they were ready with activities, decorations, and gifts; everything Christmas, except the snow.

First residents enjoy lots of attention
and a range of activities at Lac La Biche

Residents are settling in to their new home, and employee care partners are settling in to their new roles at the newly opened Points West Living Lac La Biche. As the community gradually grows – to date, only 11 of the 49 anticipated residents have moved in – there’s time for everyone to adjust, build friendships, and explore meaningful activities.

PWL Lac La Biche is ready for residents

Everything is coming together nicely for the scheduled June 11 opening of Points West Living Lac La Biche. Most of the new employee care partners have been on site for intensive orientation for the last two weeks of May, and the new GM is giving tours of the brand new building to prospective residents and their families.
