Points West Living Stettler joins Eden Registry

Dec 1st, 2017

Points West Living Stettler is now an official Eden Alternative® Community. General Manager Carol Dyck received the call on November 16 that the community has been accepted into the organization’s Eden Registry. On November 30, Eden Alternative® shared the news with the world-wide Eden community.

"I knew we could do it"

When Carol Dyck took on the position of General Manager for PWL Stettler in the summer of 2016, her goal was to achieve Eden registration within a year. “We were a fairly active Eden community already, so I knew we could do it,” Carol says. “In January of this year, we started putting together our Eden Registry application.”

“One requirement was to get letters of support from families, residents, employee care partners, and local community partners,” says Carol. “Office Administrator Ashley Muhlbach came up with the idea of asking all of these folks to say what they felt on video, so we did. We collected iPhone videos from care partners, residents, a local physician, and allied health team members. They all said a few words about why they like Eden.”

News shared with the Eden world

In the Eden Alternative® email and website post sent out on November 30, to introduce PWL Stettler as a new registry member, Suzette Molina wrote, “The care partner employee team is dedicated to the Eden Alternative philosophy of care, which promotes maximum independence, choice, and dignity for everyone who lives here.”

“We’re ecstatic!” says Carol. “To be officially recognized as an Eden community is the realization of a dream. It’s huge. It’s one thing to be doing Eden, and quite another to be recognized for it.”

Meaning and purpose

“I think it reaffirms that Eden is the right way to become a person-centred organization,” Carol says, “that we do truly put the residents’ concerns first when we are making decisions about residents’ care and their lives; to provide meaning and purpose. It’s not just about making the best medicall care choices to assist them to the ends of their lives; its more about making best possible purpose-filled lives with loving companionship for their time with us.”

Entry to the Eden Registry is the first of four registry milestones, and along with PWL Lloydminster and PWL Wainwright, PWL Stettler is already working towards a level 2 designation.
