Students spread Christmas cheer throughout
the PWL Red Deer community

Dec 20th, 2017

Every resident at Points West Living Red Deer had a chance to interact and create with Grade 7 students during a multi-cottage activity on December 19. The sixty-eight students from St Patrick’s School were divided among each of PWL Red Deer’s eight separate ‘cottages’. They had some great one-on-one time with residents in the family-style cottage kitchens and produced some fine cookies.

Most of all for them to have fun

“We invited the students to come and spend an afternoon with our residents in every cottage and to bake some Christmas Cookies,” says recreation coordinator Barb Morris. “It’s Christmas time so we love to have all the residents together doing different social events and most of all for them to have fun. The students helped bake cookies, some played cards with the residents, while others made puzzles and just spent some quality time with our residents.”

“The students had so much fun,” says Barb, “and the residents loved their company. They had such wonderful moments with the kids, whether it was baking or singing or just sitting around with them, they loved it.”

They'll be back

The students also gave each resident a handmade Christmas door hanger. They’ll be back again in February to do some Valentine’s Day baking with residents.

Stimulating and meaningful social events

The Red Deer Advocate produced a brief video on this event. “I think it was fabulous for the media to be here,” says Barb, “to let people in the Red Deer area see what stimulating and meaningful social events all of our residents can take part in here at PWL Red Deer.”
