Special visitors bring music and merriment
to PWL Stettler

January 3rd, 2018

Residents at Points West Living Stettler welcomed more than a hundred young visitors in the week leading up to Christmas. Students from two local elementary schools, Stettler Elementary and Christ-King Catholic School performed songs, made crafts and visited with residents.

Unexpected surprise

The first students were unexpected but welcomed with pleasure by the residents of Meeting Creek cottage. The Stettler Elementary Grade 2 students made cards for residents and sang a lively ‘Hip Hop Reindeer’ song among other numbers. “We were so pleased the students and their teacher felt free to fit us into their last-minute plans,” says General Manage Carol Dyck. “With the Eden philosophy, allowing for the unexpected is a great antidote for boredom, and our residents certainly enjoyed the surprise.”

Dancing Christmas Tree

A kindergarten class from Stettler Elementary came the next day, and sang several songs including ‘I’m a Dancing Christmas Tree’. They then sat with residents to visit while they cut out and decorated paper wreaths, which residents got to keep. “The residents were overjoyed with the attention and interaction,” says recreation coordinator Jenn Dixon. “Some of the wreaths did end up on residents’ doors.”

Smiles brightened the whole room

The final group of 50 children from Christ-King Catholic School came on Friday December 22, to sing traditional carols. The group included two children of PWL Stettler care partners. “The residents really enjoyed the carols,” says Jenn. “Then when the students went into the crowd and shook everyone’s hands and hugged them wishing them a Merry Christmas, the residents’ smiles brightened up the whole room.”
