Partner in hair care is a treasured member
of the PWL Stettler community

Apr 11th, 2018

When Points West Living Stettler first opened its doors in the summer of 2013, a new contracted in-house hair stylist had already set up shop. In the five years that have followed, Cathy Cassidy has trimmed and coloured and curled hair for just about everyone who lives and serves at PWL Stettler, and more besides.

Experienced and familiar with the needs of seniors

Before opening Cathy’s Cuts at PWL Stettler, Cathy Cassidy had operated a salon at the Stettler Hospital and long-term Care Centre, so she was experienced and familiar with the needs of seniors who require extra care and attention. Cathy will go to residents’ rooms to bring them to the salon and then return them safely when their appointment is done. She has adjusted her salon – including sinks and hairdryers – to be wheelchair friendly. Of course, with 35 years experience, she knows how to deliver the haircut or style that make her clients look good and feel good.

Busy year round

With more than 100 residents and almost as many employee care partners who are happy to use her services, PWL Stettler keeps Cathy busy year round. She also finds time to serve residents’ family members and friends and others, including children, from the broader Stettler community.

Only your hairdresser knows...

One of Cathy’s regular clients is General Manager Carol Dyck. “Looking at her long list of care-partner clients, I’m not sure how she or anyone else gets anything done,” quips Carol, who has been known to get a color applied and then sneak back into her office to work for the hour while it processes and then back into the chair for the rinse and cut (no, Carol will not tell us her original color; only Cathy knows for sure!).

Clients have become good friends and mentors

Cathy has become close to many of the residents she serves. “My clients have become good friends and mentors,” she says. “I truly enjoy them.” She gets involved in community events and has been generous with her services. With prices ranging from $20 for a gentleman’s cut, to $95 for a spiral perm, even with a recent rate increase she is more than competitive with other local salons.

All in all, as Carol can attest, “Cathy Cassidy is a really important care partner at PWL-Stettler. We really do appreciate the extra love and attention she gives to our entire community; what a wonderful addition. Thank you, Cathy.”
