PWL Slave Lake co-hosts the town’s
Seniors’ Week Barbeque

June 8th, 2018

Points West Living Slave Lake held a Seniors’ Week barbeque on June 5, co-hosting along with Slave Lake’s Seniors’ coordinator, Tammy Kendall. The whole town was invited, with people aged 55 and up dining free of charge. The rest of the guests paid just $5.

Burgers, dogs, potato salad and more...

The food services team, including cook Roland Salmorin (left in photo above) and brand new cook, Kenneth Andales were kept very busy flipping burgers and turning hot dog weiners for the hungry crowd, who also enjoyed chips, potato salad, fruit and ice cream. About 120 people took in the barbeque, and when the grills were shut off, only a few leftovers remained.

Friends reunite

“Quite a few of our residents used to live next door at Vanderwell Lodge before Points West opened,” says recreation coordinator Ashleigh Turner, “so when a lot of the Lodge’s current residents came for the barbeque, many friends were reunited.”

“We had a draw for two large hanging flower pots,” says Ashleigh, “and the winners were both residents of Slave Lake. Plus our maintenance man Greg Lacombe put on another show for us, playing a few songs on his guitar and singing.”

They had a great time

“At the end of the afternoon I had multiple guests come up to me and thank us for the hospitality; they all said they had a great time.”
