It was a Happy Fathers’ Day at PWL Peace River

June 25th, 2018

A special Dad-type meal, a richly-iced chocolate cake, and personal crafty treats were all served up at Points West Living Peace River in honour of Fathers’ Day. The edible ‘goody-men’ treats were created by a team of employee care partners and residents. Can you guess what they’re made of?

Fathers' Day treat and fun craft

Bernadette Harris and Melody Managtag know. The two work together on recreation at PWL Peace River, and when Melody found the basic idea online they came up with some modifications it would make a perfect Fathers’ Day treat and a fun craft. “We set up a craft corner,” says Bernadette, “and Melody, along with some of the ladies who live here, we began assembling them.”

Assembling the body parts...

“Kit-Kat bars make up the feet, a small tin of Pringles potato chips are the body, cracker packages are the arms, individual-serve applesauces are the heads, and single-serve peanut butter packets become the hats,” says Bernadette. “I found the pattern for the tie online and printed them out then folded and glued them to the Pringles.”

Melody and the team of residents glued the parts together and used a felt marker to draw on the eyes, nose and mouth for each ‘goody-man’.

Wonderful meal; happy Dads

“Everyone shared a wonderful meal of barbequed baby back pork ribs, roasted potatoes, green beans, and lastly a slice of that wonderful chocolate cake,” adds Bernie, “baked and decorated by employee care partner Cathy Pollard (HCA).”

“The Dads were very happy to receive their ‘goody man’ and to be a little pampered and acknowledged on their special day.”
