Carnival at Heritage House brings out
the kid in everyone

August 13th, 2018

Points West Living Heritage House in Vegreville held a mini Carnival recently for residents, care partners, families and people from town to enjoy. There were games, contests, carnival goodies, face painting, hay rides, a magician and a dunk tank.

Prizes for everyone

“Our games included prizes for everyone,” says Alexis Bauer, General Manager of PWL Heritage House. “There was ring toss, balloon pop, throw the ball into the tea cup, wheel of fortune, and the favourite was Plinko, just like on The Price is Right.”

“‘Jeffrey the Magician’ captivated the crowd,” says Alexis. “Residents and children sat with amazed eyes trying to figure out every trick. Their smiles and laughter filled the air.”

Alexis in the dunk tank

Perhaps the most popular event was the dunk tank; especially when Alexis was in the hot seat. When it was her turn, “The balls started flying,” she says. “Everyone had fun watching me get dunked into the water. It was a good thing it was a nice day out because (Heritage House resident) Curtis Mcfarlane would not stop throwing balls until he dunked me!”

A memorable day

A watermelon eating contest was the final event of the day, with residents, family members and their children taking part. “They all raced to finish their watermelons and the audience had fun watching and laughing as the contestants’ faces were soaked with watermelon juice,” says Alexis. “The whole day was an event we are all sure to remember.”

Photo: Heritage House resident, Curtis Mcfarlane kept throwing balls at the dunk tank target until he successfully unseated GM Alexis Bauer. “Curtis normally sits in his wheelchair because he can get unsteady on his feet,” says Alexis, “but that day he needed to stand up so he could get a good throw. He managed to hit the target and down I went. He laughed and laughed! Way to go Curtis!”
