Old time country music singers strike a chord
with residents at PWL Stettler

August 23rd, 2018

Alberta country music entertainers Randy & Rai Smith visited Points West Living Stettler recently to put on a show for the community. The duo performed a selection of familiar old-time country songs as well as several of their own compositions, and residents made a very responsive and appreciative crowd.

Wonderful performers

“This is their second time at PWL Stettler,” says recreation coordinator Jenn Dixon. “The first time in June 2017 was so wonderful, we were happy to be included in their tour this summer and put them on the calendar again.”

Great entertainment

A couple both onstage and off, Randy & Rai interacted with residents before, during and after the show, and told jokes and stories throughout the evening performance. But it was their music that really struck a chord with residents.

“The most popular old time song they played was ‘Cattle Call’, in which Randy did a great job of yodelling,” says Jenn. “Residents sang their hearts out to songs like, ‘I Love a Small Town’, ‘Daisy a Day’, and ‘Tennessee Waltz’.” Resident Alberta Holtz (left in above photo), joined in the singing, saying, “These are all songs I know!”

Can't get enough

After the performance, independent living resident Eileen Tschritter purchased one of Randy & Rai’s CDs, saying “They brought tears to my eyes they were so wonderful!” According to Jenn, Eileen has been playing that CD non-stop ever since.

“They were awesome and the residents loved them and went away with great big smiles on their faces,” says Jenn. “I would recommend everyone to invite them to their community.”
