Heritage House contributes candy and cuteness
to the Vegreville community parade

August 24th, 2018

Points West Living Heritage House residents, employee care partners, families and friends all came out for the annual Vegreville parade on August 9. This year, they had something extra special to watch for; PWL Heritage House’s very own ‘float’.

A big community event

The parade is a big community event in Vegreville, in part because it kicks off the Vegreville Country fair with its carnival rides and games, grandstand events, exhibitions, and more. Everyone here also loves the parade for the candy tossed by parade participants to the crowds lining the streets of the parade route.

Tossing candy at the crowd

“The parade lasted 50 minutes & you should see the bags of candy residents collected,” says recreation coordinator Kathy Sawchuck. The PWL float certainly added to the haul. “Our General Manager Alexis Bauer, her daughter Bethany, Joyce Mudyambanje (LPN), and Franco Matina (PWL Marketing Manager) walked alongside our float and passed out candy.”

“For our float, resident Grace Barrett and John Michael Lloyd (son of employee care partner Lorelei Lloyd) walked carrying the PWL banner,” says Kathy, “and they were followed by Alexis’s daughter Sophia with Logan Cole at the reins of a little cart pulled by Chico, a miniature horse.” Logan is the grandson of Heritage House’s casual maintenance man, Darrell Cole (who is also the owner of Chico).

After the parade, all of the floats pulled into the fairgrounds where Premier Rachel Notley handed out the awards. “Even though our float didn’t win a prize ribbon,” says Kathy, “we are still number one at Heritage House!”
