Health Care Aide Day in Lloydminster

October 23rd, 2018

The province of Alberta designated October 18 as Health Care Aide Day for 2018. At Points West Living Lloydminster, employee care partners gathered together for a potluck lunch, and some recognition from General Manager, Sarah Walker.

Recognition for going above and beyond

“The potluck was much more than a gathering to eat together,” says Sarah. “It was to celebrate and show appreciation to our HCAs." She shared some small treats with each person and read them some of the positive feedback she’s received from residents and their families. One of the notes read, ‘Your care partners always seem to amaze me. They go above and beyond, and really show they love their jobs’.

Working hard to alleviate loneliness, helplessness and boredom

After the potuck, residents got to share their appreciation with care partners over cake and tea. “Care partners need to be celebrated every day,” says Sarah, “for their roles are so much bigger than meeting the care needs of residents. They are also working hard to alleviate loneliness, helplessness and boredom – the three ‘plagues’ which are behind much of the suffering of our elders.”

We had everything from pizza to ribs and chicken wings, veggies, dips, salads and lots of desserts.”
