PWL Stettler residents experience exhilarating
Remembrance Day moment

November 21st, 2018

The stirring tones of bagpipes and drums wound their way through Points West Living Stettler, as residents and care partners prepared for this year’s Remembrance Day service. It is a sound like no other, and the sight of the Alberta Justice & Solicitor General Regimental Pipes & Drums in full dress was equally impressive. And for one resident, it was particularly memorable.

Amazing sight to see and sound to hear

“The band arrived shortly after lunch and first performed for the residents in the Independent Living area,” says office administrator Ashley Mulbach. “Then they marched all throughout our community to each of the cottages in all their glory. It was an amazing sight to see and equally amazing to hear the sounds of the bagpipes and drums fill the hallways.”

Active and retired service personnel

The Regimental Pipes and Drums band is made up of active and retired members of the RCMP, Alberta Correctional Services, Alberta Sheriff’s Branch, and Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Branch, and includes some veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces.

“Every year the group arranges to perform in smaller Alberta communities,” Ashley adds, “and since they were participating in the Stettler Remembrance Day Service, they offered to come to PWL Stettler.”

Proud Mama

“For one of our residents, Violet Clark, here at PWL Stettler, this was an event very near and dear to her heart,” says Ashley. “Her son is a member of the Band and he is pictured (photo) standing with her.”

“Everyone that was able to see the Band was thrilled and felt that it was a tremendous tribute to our veterans and fallen soldiers this Remembrance Day.”
