Volunteer uses creativity and care to enrich
PWL Stettler community

February 12th, 2019

Jean Bischke comes by Points West Living Stettler two days a week to take part in activities with residents from all the different cottages. She leads ‘Coffee & Conversation’, a group crossword challenge, and has recently begun a 'Powder Puff Nail Care' program.

Powder Puff popular

It has proved to be a very popular program. Jean Bischke, along with her friend Malora Lee, clip, file, and paint nails for residents, both women and men. The name ‘Powder Puff’ doesn’t deter the gentlemen from having their nails cared for too, but they generally decline the nail polish.

Fresh clean nails

“Residents love this attention and often show off their nails for days after,” says Recreation Therapist Lisa Smith. “Both employee care partners and family members have commented on how much the resident enjoy their clean fresh nails.”

We are grateful she chose PWL Stettler

Jean began volunteering at Points West Living Stettler almost four years ago. She’s had previous experience volunteering then working as a Therapy Aide at Stettler Hospital, and as a board member and volunteer show producer with the Heartland Arts Troupe Society.

Her creativity and caring commitment are much appreciated by residents and employee care partners alike. “Jean decided in 2015 that she wanted to begin volunteering with seniors again, and we are grateful she chose to spend her time here,” says Lisa. “We feel much appreciation as she continues to enrich and brighten the lives of the residents here at Points West Living Stettler.”

Thank you Jean

“Thank you Jean, for making such a difference in our community!”
