A group of nine young girls from a local church helped prepare Points West Living Stettler for Valentine’s Day. Along with a handful of residents, the girls created heart garlands, red paper butterflies, and foam heart crafts. The handmade decorations are now up in the main dining room, brightening the hall with caring good cheer.

Fun project

Lisa Smith, PWL Stettler’s Recreation Therapist, is the current leader for the Activity Day Girls at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and says, “Ever since I started working here just over a month ago, I’ve been looking for a way to bring the girls in for a fun project. Valentine’s Day seemed like the perfect opportunity.”

Festive and loving environment

Once they settled to the task, the girls and residents were kept busy making as many of each craft as they could. “Smiles were plentiful as residents and children visited and worked towards a common goal,” Lisa says. “The last minutes of the activity were a flurry of young girls taking the projects and posting them around the main dining room, making it a festive and loving environment.”

Giving and receiving care fills our hearts with joy

“I am so grateful for the opportunity for these young girls to interact with seniors from their community,” Lisa says, “and to serve by transforming our dining room into a colourful and fun setting. This is a shining example of how giving and receiving care fills our hearts with joy.”
