Friendly rivalry continues with a floor-
curling tournament in brand new venue

March 26th, 2019

Residents at Points West Living Wainwright had home team advantage in the second annual floor curling tournament with Battle River Lodge. The PWL curlers have been practising for weeks and their hard work paid off with a big tournament win. The new venue proved a winner too.

Taking home the trophy

PWL residents were delighted to take home the tournament trophy for the first time (in the 2-year tourney), and they were pleased to show off PWL Wainwright’s new recreation room. The large room is on the ground floor of the community’s new 48-suite Independent Supportive Living expansion.

Break out the dancing shoes?

“It was the first time our Battle River Lodge visitors got to see our new addition. They were very pleased to see the recreation room,” says recreation coordinator Jenna Doll. “Many comments were made about how much space there was for activities, with lots of natural light. One visitor commented on how much space there would be to hold a dance and that he would be coming over when we host it!"

Down to the wire

“There was plenty of fun banter going on with our friends at Battle River Lodge. In the final game, our volunteer Pauline Smith had to get out her tape measure to see who was closest to the button,” adds Jenna. “We take our curling very serious here in Wainwright!” She’s already booked the next tournament for May, to wrap up the floor curling season.
