Countdown begins to PWL Cochrane opening

In less than a month, Points West Living Cochrane will welcome its first resident, and in the days leading up to that much-anticipated event, the newest PWL community will be abuzz with activity. Between now and June 24th, employee orientation, cleaning, and furniture delivery will keep everyone busy.

38 new employee care partners

“This week my crew is basically staging all of the *cottages, and getting the final cleaning of patios and decks done,” says General Manager Kevin Cucheron. “Then on Monday June 3rd, all 38 new employee care partners will begin two weeks of orientation.” There, they’ll focus on learning about the Eden Alternative philosophy of care, their own areas of service, familiarizing themselves with the new building, the organization and the community, and they’ll be getting to know their new colleagues.

Kevin says most of the positions for healthcare, hospitality, cooking, and recreation have been filled to accommodate the opening, but as new floors open in months ahead, there will be more need for Health Care aides and Hospitality Aides.

First resident to move in on June 24

On June 24th, a full week after orientation wraps up, employee care partners will be on hand to welcome the first Designated Supportive Living (DSL) resident. “Our plan is to welcome two residents per day four days a week until we are full,” says Kevin.

Resident placement through AHS

At this time, PWL Cochrane is solely a DSL4 care community, and resident placement in DSL suites is coordinated through Alberta Health Services (via your current Home Care Case Manager, your family doctor, or through referral with Health Link Alberta). A second-phase Independent Supportive Living expansion is in the planning stages.

*Cottages: Suites at PWL Cochrane are arranged in a cottage-style configuration, where several suites are clustered around a kitchen, dining, and gathering area, allowing a smaller community of residents and their care partner team to build ongoing supportive relationships.
