Resident volunteers as Athens Creek
‘Toast Master’

May 27th, 2019

Friday is raisin toast day at the Athens Bistro at Points West Living Athens Creek in Penticton. The breakfast, which comes with hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit, is a popular choice among residents. The trouble is, when the breakfast rush is on, that’s a lot of bread for one person to toast, butter, and serve to residents while it’s still… toasty. Bring on the ‘Toast Master’.

Self-proclaimed 'Toast Master

Bonnie Cederholm is Athens Creek’s Hospitality Supervisor, and after one particularly busy morning she decided to enlist the help of some residents. Two residents signed up, and on Friday May 24, after a brief training session on the industrial toaster, Joe Padden debuted as the self-proclaimed ‘Toast Master’, providing raisin toast to about thirty residents.

Running the show together

“Next week Joe will have a break,” says recreation coordinator Ellie Bertrand, “and a second Athens resident, Norman Hyssop, will be in charge of toast preparation. Soon they will be running the show together!”
