Everyone celebrates Gorgeous Grandma Day!

Bet you didn’t now July 23 was Gorgeous Grandma Day for 2019! Fortunately, someone at Points West Living Peace River was on their toes, and found out about it in time to plan a special celebration for residents. As the planning proceeded, the object of the celebration expanded.

"We should honour and celebrate all gorgeous people"

“We thought we should celebrate all the Gorgeous Grandmothers,” says recreation coordinator Bernadette Harris, “but we soon realized that we should honour and celebrate all gorgeous people, regardless of age or gender because beauty manifests itself in many ways, inside and out.”

Fashionable fascinators

They settled on holding a High Tea, with Royal Albert Lavender Rose china provided by Bernadette, and a Blue Willow china set from resident Marjorie Fessler. All of the women wore fascinators – flowers and feathers wound onto a hair clip – in their hair. The Resident Crafting Group, along with Recreation Aide, Melody Managtag created the fascinators the day before.

“Our wonderful cooks headed by Supervisor Kenneth Ceniza prepared a fabulous arrangement and variety of raw vegetables, cheeses, fruits and a delicious array of sweets such as petit fours and baklava,” says Bernadette.

"People didn't want to leave"

Some guests from the community of Peace River joined in as well, and, “The room was all abuzz with great company, wonderful conversations, great food, and picture taking,” says Bernadette. “There was so much merriment and enjoyment, the time just flew by there was no time to be bored or lonely. It was so enjoyable people didn’t want to leave.”
