Young volunteer brings polish and fun to residents’ manicures

August 26th, 2019

Brooke McKain likes to do nails and she likes to get together with residents of Points West Living Heritage House in Vegreville. The 13-year-old combined both recently in a fun afternoon of nail painting with residents.

Residents bring her great joy

According to office administrator Jamie McKain, who is Brooke’s mom so she should know, “Brook loves volunteering at Heritage House. The residents bring her great joy,” says Jamie, “and she also puts a smile on their faces every time she comes to volunteer.”

Brooke had a little help for her August 15 nail spa. Glennys Osko was on hand to give her mother Maxine Evans a manicure, and General Manager Alexis Bauer did resident Judy Debelt’s nails.

Maintenance of great nails

The most entertaining set of nails done that afternoon belong to Chris Elgie, the maintenance guy for PWL Heritage House. “We managed to get Chris’s nails painted as well,” says Jaimie, “to show his wife how great they looked!”

“This activity was so well loved by our residents,” adds Jaimie, “that we have decided to make this a monthly occurrence.”
