Community spirit leads to successful Food Bank Blitz

December 12th, 2019

Points West Living Wainwright got into the spirit of the holiday season with a two-week Food Bank Blitz in early December. Residents, care partners, family members added cans, boxes, jars and bags of food to give a helping hand to anyone who needs it at this time of year.

Food and cash for food

As well as the various items collected for the Wainwright Food Bank shelves, there were cash donations the food bank will use to buy perishable items for Christmas food hampers.

Collaborative collection

“The Wainwright High School Leadership class has been here over the past month, forming friendships with residents,” says recreation coordinator Shauna Lee Carlson. “As it turns out, the high school was doing a food bank drive in the community, so they picked up our donations and delivered them to the food bank, so the blitz turned into a collaborative effort that we were delighted to be a part of.”

Generous and kind-spirited

“I am so proud to be working in a community,” adds Shauna Lee, “that at its very heart is so generous and kind-spirited.”
