“It feels like Christmas!” at PWL Cochrane

December 17th, 2019

Decorations, activities, crafts, and homemade cookies are bringing home Christmas to residents of Points West Living Cochrane. And the best part, residents themselves are making it happen.

First there was gingerbread

Recreation care partners worked alongside residents to enjoy a week of gingerbread making. “On the first day we mixed the dough,” says recreation care partner Jessica Craig. “Then a day of rolling, cutting, and baking; and then as the grand finale, residents had a lovely afternoon decorating (ant taste testing) their creations. Everyone said they tasted delicious and that some were ‘just too pretty to eat’.”

Resident Norma Bruce (pictured upper left) told Jessica, “It feels like Christmas!” Care partners made lots of extras to share around the community, so it smelled and tasted like Christmas too.

Button wreaths

A few days later, craft club began to work on button wreaths. “The wreaths are made with an assortment of green buttons,” says Jessica, “something you’d think would be hard to find, but I happened upon numerous packages while out shopping for supplies. It was meant to be.”

“The residents enjoyed sorting through the buttons and doing different placements before gluing down their final choices on their festive arrangements.”
