Residents create their own success at annual bake sale

December 17th, 2019

Points West Living Lloydminster hosted its annual Fall Tea and Bake Sale fundraiser on November 30th, and residents’ participation was key to the event’s success.

Residents went above and beyond

“This year our residents went above and beyond with helping out our care partners,” says Recreation Therapist, Karly MacDonald. “For weeks leading up to the bake sale our residents offered up their help with baking, sharing their family’s recipes, and sharing ideas of baked goodies they would make with their families over the holidays.” Not only did they bake the goods for sale, but they volunteered to help work the door, the bake sale, and set up and clean up for the tea.

“One resident in particular who generally isn’t interested in activities, assisted with much of the baking for the sale,” says Karly. “Clara was not only an amazing baker but once she started baking she owned that kitchen! She would take over the baking and clean everything up top to bottom.”

Finding meaning and purpose

“It is moments like these,” Karly says, “that we at PWL Lloydminster strive for; seeing residents come out of their shell and assisting them in finding meaning and purpose in their lives to alleviate feelings of helplessness.”
