Valentine cards show there’s lots of love to share

February 25th, 2020

A valentine card-making workshop drew an eager crowd of participants recently at Points West Living Peace River. Residents were pleased to make the cards, but even more excited to think of sharing them with loved ones.

A twinkle in the eyes

“There are just some social events that you don’t even need to talk residents into coming to. They just come,” says recreation coordinator Melody Managtag, “and Valentine’s Day is one of those days. There is just something about this occasion that sparks a twinkle in somebody’s eyes, a smile on the lips and a soothing feeling in the heart.”

Excited and proud

“Everybody was excited doing their own cards,” Melody says, and they got excited about making them for their loved ones. “I heard them saying, ‘I want to make a card for my son’, ‘Oh, I want to make one for my daughter’, ‘I’m going to make one for my friend’, and ‘I will make one too for somebody’.”

“In the end, they were so proud to show off their DIY cards in these pictures.”

Joy in volunteering

Resident Mary Biggs’s daughter, Lyn Hanusz, arranged the valentine card making event, and brought all the materials, including card stock, stickers, stamps, and stick-on embellishments. “It brought her joy to be able to do it,” says Melody. “It inspired her so much that she volunteered to come again for St. Patrick’s card making in March.”
