The music man of Heritage House

May 22nd, 2020

Orest Fodchuk is the kind of gentleman who likes to takes the initiative. A longtime resident of Points West Living Heritage House in Vegreville, he’s given travel talks, started movie nights, and takes part in just about every activity on offer. Recently, he’s dipped in to his classic cassette collection, and is sharing the music with his fellow residents.

Residents missing bingo and music

With COVID visiting restrictions, things have been pretty quiet around Heritage House. “Our residents are missing all of the activities,” says recreation coordinator, Kathy Sawchuk, “Bingo first, and music second.”

“This is one way we are coping with the pandemic," says Kathy. “Orest ‘walkers’ around the halls with his cassette player on ‘fairly’ loud. He has quite a few cassettes of local bands and some goldie oldies."

Good memories

"Residents are enjoying the travelling music. You can see doors opening up as Orest gets closer, with people looking out to see where the music is coming from," says Kathy. “One resident told me the music brings back so many good memories.”

“No one is annoyed, and no one is dancing… yet!”

Once things return to normal, Orest hopes to share his music collection with gatherings of friends in the main Heritage House living room.
