Alberta premier visits Points West Living Red Deer

July 27th, 2020

Premier Jason Kenny paid a quick outdoor visit to Points West Living Red Deer on July 18. The morning was a bit chilly, but the rain held off so the premier was able to speak from the courtyard (with microphone and speaker) as residents watched and listened from their balconies.

Tough stuff

Premier Kenny praised the residents for their contributions to building the province of Alberta, and drew their applause when he praised their perseverance. “These are tough times,” Premier Kenny told them, “but a lot of you have lived through tough times and demonstrated a kind of resilience, the tough stuff, that Albertans are made of.”

The premier concluded his brief speech by saying, “We love our seniors in Alberta, we respect you and we want to make sure that you all continue to enjoy an active and healthy life here at this centre,” adding, “We appreciate the example you have set for your children and for all of us.”

Very aware of COVID restrictions

General Manager Tracy Elliott was on hand to escort the premier for his visit and says she appreciated that “he was very aware of COVID restrictions,” wearing a mask and even commenting that he didn’t want to seem rude, but wanted to keep the 6-foot distance.

Wonderful of him to come

“Residents thought it was wonderful of him to come,” says Tracy. As many as 75 residents braved the chill to watch from their balconies, all the way up to the fifth floor.

Connecting Care/PWL’s Ambassador for Community Experience, Georg Rath presented the premier with a couple of copies of the 2019 Eden Moments collection coffee table book.
