PWL Peace River goes the distance, and then some

September 9th, 2020

When the folks at Points West Living Peace River took on the #Steps2MentalHealth walking challenge in August, they set what they thought was an ambitious goal; to virtually walk from Peace River across four provinces to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, located in Toronto, Ontario. At their August 27 tailgate party, the whole community celebrated surpassing their goal.

A bit far fetched

“At the beginning when given this challenge of just over 4,000,000 steps, it seemed a little far fetched,” says recreation coordinator Cathy Pollard, “but in the long run when you work as a team, you can achieve almost anything.”

Surprised by 5-million steps

“The results of the challenge surprised us when we ended up walking 5,426,826 steps,” Cathy says. “It is something to be proud about. One of our employee care partners came in 6th place in the top steppers across all 27 participating communities, walking 444,812 steps. Way to go Vibin!”

Everyone cheered and embraced the moment

The community celebrated together for their tailgate party with a delicious lunch, music and even a little dancing; showcasing the smooth moves of residents and GM David Haastrup (photo above). “Everyone cheered and embraced the moment,” says Cathy.
