Winning photos reflect the 2020 experience

November 25th, 2020

The second and third place photos in the Points West Living 2020 Photo Contest show two very different faces of 2020. The first is of preparation for a New Year’s Eve party to usher in the year 2020; when almost nobody had heard of the coronavirus. The second photo is of a socially distanced visit held in the spring, when COVID-19 meant the only visits allowed were pre-arranged, and separated by a closed window.

Second place photo: Lobster love

Recreation Therapist, Anoop Jose took the (above left) photo of Kitchen Supervisor Brent Hughes and Chef Kathy Roy as they prepped for a very special New Year’s Eve dinner at Points West Living Lac La Biche. “Our chef, Kathy Roy had purchased 68 fresh-cooked and frozen lobsters when she visited her home in Nova Scotia, and brought them back to Lac La Biche for our New Year’s Eve party.” Link to the January 2020 PWL-News article.

Anoop started a new position a couple of months ago as a Recreation Therapist at Diamond Springs Lodge (operated by Connecting Care) in Redwater Alberta, working with people living with brain injuries.

Third place photo: Mini-love

The third place photo is a sweet scene from Points West Living Cochrane. In April 2020, miniature horses and their handlers from Robinson Outreach at RiverCross Ranch came to have window visits with residents. The charity is led by Janet Robinson who used to work as the office administrator for PWL Cochrane. Residents were captivated by the tiny horses and by the tiny volunteer in the big cowboy hat.
