New Year’s Eve brings a flood of ‘midnight kisses’

January 7th, 2021

Following almost a year of social distancing, the thought of ringing in the New Year with a kiss may seem rather compelling. Or not. In any case, each resident of Points West Living Stettler received their very own midnight kiss on New Year’s Eve morning, thanks to the efforts of a handful of helpers.

Last minute love

“I saw the idea of giving midnight kisses to residents, and loved it so much we had to make it happen,” says Recreation Therapist Lisa Smith. “It was very last minute, but we bought the supplies and put them together for every resident and care partner in the building.”

Because time was short, and Lisa and recreation coordinator Diedre Northrop had programs running, they welcomed the help of resident Donna Chapman. “Donna came to the rescue by cutting out many of the lips, and gluing a Hershey’s kiss on each,” says Lisa. “Since Donna helps organize Meals on Wheels for Stettler, she also was able to add a ‘midnight kiss’ to all of their dinners, delivering a special surprise to some isolated seniors in the Stettler community.”

“Although we didn’t get to see the reactions of residents when they received their ‘midnight kisses,” adds Lisa, “we hope it brought a smile and memories of their own midnight kisses in their younger years.”
