Points West Living recognized for providing a healthy workplace

Points West Living along with its operations group Connecting Care has been recognized as one of Canada’s healthiest workplace employers for 2020. The award, presented by Excellence Canada celebrates organizations for their planning and actions to foster a comprehensive approach to workplace health.

Wellness and Safety Coordinator Darcie Gibb (pictured above) championed the PWL/CC (Points West Living / Connecting Care) award application. She found out about the award only a month before the application was due, but she pulled it together in time. “Usually you have a whole year. You have to send in so much evidence. They want to see photos and videos, and surveys; lots of additional info.”

Four key areas of workplace health

The categories under evaluation are considered elements of a healthy workplace: physical environment, healthy lifestyles, workplace culture and mental health, and corporate social responsibility. Within each category, Darcie had to give examples of “…what we do to help employees; what we have done.” Darcie is excited about receiving the award – one of only five presented in Western Canada, and the only Alberta winner in the seniors housing sector.

Motivation for yearly improvement

“We did this to win it, but now we’ve set the bar. Next year we’d better have something for our employees in Health and Wellness for us to participate in, measuring constantly. It is especially important while COVID is front and centre.” Darcie is already assembling the material for next year’s entry.
