It’s open season for… Penguins?

January 26th, 2021

In a stroke of multi-purposing genius, Points West Living Heritage House in Vegreville has found an off-season use for its collection of Christmas trees. A penguin hunt. All it took was one defenceless penguin (aka recreation coordinator Kathy Sawchuck), and a cadre of nerf-gun toting residents. At the end of it all, the penguin was still standing, and the hunters were still laughing.

Such sharpshooters

“Who knew they were all such sharpshooters?” laughs Kathy. “I’m sure some of the residents used to shoot gophers, but this day, they aimed at the penguin (me). Even our maintenance man sided with them. In fact anyone who crossed through the danger zone got shot at. This included care partners, our LPN, and even the Nurse Practitioner.”

“You can see by their smiles they had fun,” she adds. “I too had a great time but after one hour, I needed an Advil.”
