Residents’ experience shared in song

April 28th, 2021

Alberta recording artist Kym Simon has contributed much to lift spirits of residents of Points West Living and Connecting Care communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with other professional and lay performers, she has taken part in several virtual concerts streamed into communities. In April, Kym put her song writing talent to work by creating couple of songs.

Expressing what residents have to say

Connecting Care’s Ambassador of Community Experience, Georg Rath asked Kim if she would be interested in taking on the project of expressing what residents tell him about their (mostly positive) experience during COVID-19.

“She asked me what we’re trying to accomplish,” says Georg, and he shared his passion to celebrate the life going on for elders living in PWL-CC communities, their appreciation of nurturing care partners, and their creativity and enthusiasm. “We are alive inside!”

We're alive inside and moving mountains

And Kym, whose grandmother and aunt both live at PWL Stettler, came up with two songs. “She did a tremendous job,” says Georg. “She captured what we all feel like. We’re all in this together and we have to come through this together. We’re alive inside and moving mountains.”

“It is the Connecting Care anthem!” he says. “Both songs capture what we did and still have to do.”

Watch and listen

Both songs were presented during the April 21-22 ‘Moving Mountains’ virtual conference and both are available to watch on YouTube.
