New Employee Care Partners join Red Deer team

May 24th, 2021

Along with new residents, the newly opened expansion at Points West Living Red Deer has a new crop of employee care partners. Nineteen participants spent several days prior to the expansion’s opening, meeting with other employees, learning about the Eden model of care, health and safety protocols, the new building in which they’ll be serving, and much more.

Ten days of pre-opening orientation

Learning & Development Coordinator for Points West Living and Connecting Care, Marlon Cruz led the orientation session from April 26 to May 7. Four days were delivered virtually by Zoom video conferencing and online learning modules, and six days were conducted face-to-face (with masks) at PWL Red Deer.

Cost-saving, engagement, and safety

“The Learning and Development team was very excited as this was the first time we implemented the orientation program in a combination of online and face-to-face methods,” says Marlon. “I found there were more pros than cons in doing the four-days of virtual training. Aside from its cost-effectiveness, there was more engagement from participants as they could see their peers’ faces on the screen without masks. My favourite benefit for delivering learning in a virtual classroom is the safety of both the trainers and trainees during this pandemic.”

The face-to-face learning at the community included skills practice, role plays, teambuilding activities, community tours, and preparing the living spaces.
