Spam-Free Email

August 25th, 2014

It may seem odd to receive an email asking if you want to continue receiving emails, but that’s the message thousands of organizations across Canada (including Points West Living News) have had to send out in the last few months.

The Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL) came into effect on July 1, 2014. It is intended to protect the public from more than just nuisance email (spam). Spam can be a vehicle for damaging and deceptive activities, such as identity theft, spyware and malware which can basically hijack your computer for unauthorized use.

If you signed up in the past to receive emails from stores, updates from news organizations and websites, or you subscribe to a newsletter, you now need to re-subscribe (or “opt in”) to continue receiving those emails.

Subscribers to Points West Living News (our twice-monthly emailed newsletter) have already received a re-subscription email - “Say Yes! to PWL News”. If you missed the email (or you’d like to become a subscriber), just go to the subscription option to the right of this article.
