Autumn Wreaths bring the Season Home

October 21st, 2016

Residents at Points West Living Red Deer got creative with repurposed coat hangers and bed sheets to make beautiful autumn wreaths to hang on their front doors. Care partners brought all of the supplies one evening in late September, and by the time they were done, everyone had a beautiful wreath to show.

Cut-up bed sheets and coat hangers

Recreation coordinator Kendra Joyes happened upon the activity and was delighted to capture photos of the work and the finished product. “Evening service-time care partners, Alyssa, Melissa, Sonja, Melinda and Chelsea brought in cut up bed sheets and other fabrics, along with coat hangers and artificial fall flowers and leaves. One of the bed sheets, orange floral, was Alyssa’s grandma’s previously, and its colours really worked well.”

Residents and care partners worked alongside each other, bending their coat hangers into circles, tying the fabric in knots around the hanger, and hot-gluing on flowers and leaves to finish.

Wreaths turned out great

“The residents – and care partners – were very proud with what they made,” says Kendra, “And they were quite surprised that the wreaths turned out so great.”
