Residents help to make Eden happen
at PWL Red Deer

February 20th, 2017

The Eden Alternative philosophy “affirms that care is not a one-way street, but rather a collaborative partnership.” And residents at Points West Living Red Deer are pitching in to make it happen.

A few 'Eden moments'

Tracy Sutherland is the hospitality manager at PWL Red Deer, and captured photos of a few ‘Eden moments’ this month. These Eden-in-action shots show how everyday interactions can help combat the three Eden-identified ‘plagues’ that cause suffering among elderly individuals: loneliness, helplessness and boredom. Doing meaningful tasks in the community can help to address all three.

How live-giving usefulness is

“We are trying to convey the message of Eden in our cottages,” says Tracy. “It is a very new concept for many of our care partners. These photos clearly show the engagement on the faces of our residents as they do tasks, and reinforce how life-giving usefulness is. And they demonstrate how our care partners can encourage residents to help out.”
