Coffee Club excursions
provide a taste of Cafe Culture
March 23rd, 2017
For folks who have lived most of their lives drinking coffee from a pot, it’s quite an education, and taste sensation. Over the past few winter months, a group of residents at Points West Living Wainwright have been going out regularly to a local coffee shop; many opting for the gourmet beverages on offer.
Coffee concoctions, fancy teas, smoothies and milkshakes
Recreation coordinator Jenna Hopaluk says it all started as a social outing to the local Co-op with the option for residents to get a little shopping done. The residents visited in the Co-op coffee shop, and the more adventurous among them started exploring the different varieties coffee concoctions, fancy teas and smoothies. “One group of ladies even tried milkshakes from the make-your-own milkshake machine,” says Jenna.
If has become very popular
It all makes for good fun, and residents often encounter friends from the community, with some planning ahead to meet friends at the coffee shop. “It has become a very popular trip,” says Jenna. But as winter winds down, so will the frequency of this particular outing. “We might take a summer break,” she adds, “just because we will have other wonderful bus trips, like ice cream runs, country drives to check out the crops, and renewing regular visits to other seniors’ homes.”
