Care Partners celebrate Nursing Week
with a relaxing wellness break

May 10th, 2017

Employee care partners at Points West Living Lloydminster celebrated Nursing Week with a Wellness Day on Tuesday May 9. The highlight of the day was a 15-minute massage, delivered by an experienced massage therapist.

Combining two good things

When Liezl McLeod asked General Manager Sarah Walker if she could come to PWL Lloydminster to fulfil some of the hours she needs for her massage therapy Canadian certification, Sarah saw an opportunity. She invited Liezl to come during Nursing Week (May 8-12) to give care partners a relaxing wellness break.

Liezle is a licensed Massage Therapist in the Philippines and will start her Canadian upgrade program in August at the Alberta College of Massage Therapy. Her associate, Maebeth Singler accompanied her to PWL Lloydminster.

22 massages over five hours

The two women set up massage chairs in the conference room at 10:30 AM and delivered 22 massages over the next five hours. Most were to employee care partners, but one family member and one resident opted in as well.

“The care partners were so grateful,” says recreation coordinator Rose Baranek. “Some commented on how amazing it was, and said it was just what they needed.”
