Student puppet show provides lots of laughs
for residents of PWL Stettler

June 27th, 2017

It was a show crafted especially for seniors, and it certainly hit the spot with residents of Points West Living Stettler. Grade-7 Drama students from Wm. E. Hay Secondary Campus in Stettler wrote and performed the six segment show.

Premiere performance

Drama teacher Amy Smith says she gave her grade seven students a box of puppets and the assignment to make up their own plays around a theme. They had the choice of performing for little kids or for seniors, and they chose PWL Stettler for their premiere.

Recreation coordinator Jenn Dixon says the story centred on Burt, a young bear who helped out neighbours by raking their lawns. When Burt’s birthday came around, the whole neighbourhood came and celebrated it with him.

Residents loved this

“The residents loved this,” says Jenn. “They were laughing and clapping. At the end, everyone was laughing and talking about the puppets and how great the kids did.” After the performance, the students stayed around, visiting with residents over cookies, cake and juice.
