Moving with the music; new resident brings
music making to PWL Wainwright

August 16th, 2017

Doreen Bell moved in to Points West Living Wainwright this past May, and ever since, she has been delighting fellow residents with her gift of music. In early August she surprised her new friends with an impromptu jam session in the dining room. A group of her musical friends dropped by, and before long ‘the joint was jumpin’!

We danced, sang, cheered

“It was such fun,” says General Manager Shannon Pugh, “We danced, sang, cheered and enjoyed ice cream sundaes to boot!”

Doreen has been playing piano and guitar since she was ten – “about 73 years,” she says. She entered her first talent competition at the age of four, and won a cash prize for “the most memorable performance” in the Hardisty area.

Good Time band member

Doreen says she likes to play old time and country music, but she really likes to be creative with it. Throughout her life, Doreen has almost always played in a band. The groups she’s been a part of include, “Sparkle Tones, Good Time Band, Denim & Lace, Harmony Tones, and Last Chance.”

She's been everywhere... close to home

Her performances were pretty close to home. “We played Highway 13 mostly – Hardisty, Lougheed, Sedgewick, Camrose, Killam Houghenden, Czar and Provost; Forestburg, Stettler and north to Lloydminster, Irma, Viking and St. Paul.”

The best part for Doreen is, “making someone’s day better with music.” She is certainly doing that at PWL Wainwright.

“Thanks Doreen,” says Shannon, “for sharing your talents and spreading your wonderful energy.”
