Garden prep in full swing at PWL Cold Lake

May 11th, 2020

It may be a bit early to be putting seeds in the soil, but that hasn’t stopped the folks at Points West Living Cold Lake from dreaming and preparing. The gardeners, including employee care partners and residents are all set with seeds, sprouts, and established plants ready to add to outdoor planters as soon as the soil warms sufficiently.

Prepping planters

Recreation coordinator Wendy Ballachay reports that, “Ben and Fred mixed the mulch into the planter boxes in preparation for potatoes, tomatoes and more, while Marion supervised on the side to make sure they get it right.”

“Jackie, Gail and Trudy got the gladiolas, lilies, and sweet peas started and they are all coming up nicely. Strawberries, carnations, daisies and more will be going into the ground when it is warm enough.”

All will share fruits of residents' work

“Everyone will be able to enjoy the fruits of all these residents’ work come fall and the flowers will be enjoyed all summer,” Wendy says. “We are staying safe, practising our social distancing and wearing our masks when needed, but are missing all our families; we’re keeping busy until we can have company again.”
