Card exchange shares care in all seasons

April 12th, 2021

During a snowstorm in late March, residents of Points West Living Wainwright sat down to craft some cards to share springtime wishes with friends young and old. It is their latest contribution to an exchange of crafted cards and hand-written letters with others in the broader Wainwright community.

Opportunity to share our joy in holidays

“It all began last year with a resident asking if we could send Christmas cards to friends that we weren’t able to visit,” says recreation coordinator Shauna Lee Carlson. “It quickly became an opportunity to share our joy in holidays with children as well!”

And so, the cards and letters began flowing amongst PWL residents, a Grade 1 class at Blessed Sacrament School, and residents of Wainwright Long Term Care Centre.

Genuine and caring spirits

“Residents are so thoughtful about the messages they put into the cards, knowing the importance of showing their genuine and caring spirits,” says Shauna Lee. “The kids have responded in kind by sending homemade greetings which we have posted on the bulletin board in our front entrance, to the delight of everyone.”

“Loving companionship is demonstrated in this way, as is the opportunity to give and receive care in ways that are meaningful to each individual resident.”
