A peaceful walking tour of Northern Ireland

April 14th, 2021

Residents and employee care partners at Points West Living Athens Creek in Penticton are taking advantage of clear spring weather to do a walking tour of Northern Ireland. The tour is ‘virtual’ but the steps are very real.

Tracking progress

“So far about twenty residents and care partners have joined the walk, using an app called ‘World Walking’, which maps out the walk we are taking,” says recreation coordinator, Ellie Bertrand. “I created a large map of our walk and put it up in the dining room where I update our progress as we move along the trail. The app has milestones, and as we reach one, I add information on the location we’ve reached.” As of April 14th, walking inside and out, they’re more than half way to their destination.

Athens Travelers

“Our group is called ‘Athens Travelers’ and anyone can join,” Ellie adds. “Some of our residents use the trackers we very gratefully received last summer for the ‘Walk for Mental Health’.”

The PWL Athens Creek residents are a step or two ahead of what other communities will have the opportunity to do in a few months. Watch for more information on a new walking challenge that will take place among Connecting Care and Points West Living communities, ‘Walking the Wonders of the World’.
