Care partner team grows as PWL Drayton Valley nears completion.
June 8th, 2021
Points West Living’s newest community, PWL Drayton Valley is getting closer to opening day. General Manager Betty Verreau, did a walkthrough of the building on June 7, and says it’s exciting to finally picture how the interior is going to look once residents arrive later this summer.
A solution to unmet needs
Betty Verreau has been on the job since she was named to the position of General Manager in April of this year. As a lifelong resident of Drayton Valley, Betty is delighted to be part of the solution to what she sees as an unmet need in residential care in her town.
We all need community
Betty was ten when her 16-year-old brother was in a car accident, resulting in a serious brain injury. That happened more than 45 years ago, and her brother’s journey has shaped her own life in many ways. “I’ve always had a passion that everybody is equal,” says Betty. “Everybody has rights and deserves to be part of a community. We all need community to be physically, emotionally, and mentally well.”
After working for 16 years with Beehive Support Services for disabled adults in Drayton Valley, the last five as Executive Director, Betty was ready for a change, and was quick to apply for and was granted the PWL GM position.
Projected mid-August opening
At the moment, she and her team of three (so far) are working out of a meeting room in a nearby hotel, and the countdown is on for moving into her own offices space, assembling and training the employee care partner team, and welcoming residents. If all goes as planned, Betty expects the contractor to turn over the keys to the building in five weeks; begin employee orientation two weeks after that, and to welcome the first resident in mid-August.
Access through AHS
Alberta Health Services administers entry to PWL Drayton Valley’s 50 Designated Supportive Living suites. Six Independent Supportive Living 2-bedroom apartments are available for individuals or couples to rent.
