‘Tis the season to prep for Christmas

November 24th, 2021

Some people might disagree with that statement, but not the folks at Points West Living Drayton Valley. They’ve got Christmas spirit big time, with lights, stockings, caroling, decorating, and even Christmas baking. At this rate, they’re going to outdo Santa and his elves.

Their first group Christmas activity was on November 17th, to prepare a video for the 2021 Virtual Caroling Advent Calendar (which begins December 3 and features a different community each day). “Recreation time was the place to be that morning,” says office administrator Lydia Carter. “We donned our festive hats and got out the jingle bells. What was meant to be a half hour of singing and visiting turned into 1-1/2 hours of fun had by all. One of our residents even took the opportunity to dance along to the music. It wasn’t long before she had employee care partners dancing too. It was one of our most popular recreation times yet.”

Christmas baking

Glenda Mabbutt, one of our newest residents joined the Friday morning baking group and has been wowing us with her incredible baking skills and recipes,” says Lydia. “On November 19th, residents made gingerbread cookies that we enjoyed with a hot cup of tea.” Upcoming Friday baking is expected to include Glenda’s father’s Christmas cake recipe. “We are honoured to be able to help residents carry on traditions as we approach the holidays.”

Suite trees

Every resident who wants a tree for their room had the chance to decorate their own miniature tree on November 23rd. “With Christmas music filling the room we spent time visiting and telling stories while we decorated our trees,” says Lydia. “We will all likely be covered in glitter for several days!”
