Deck the Trees

December 21st, 2021

Decorating the Christmas trees at Points West Living Athens Creek in Penticton is a community affair. A core group of volunteers likes to take the challenge on, and this year the results are particularly lovely.

Three regulars and a newbie

“We have been inviting the residents to decorate the Christmas tree with us for a few years now,” says recreation coordinator Ellie Bertrand. “I leave it as an open invitation and just have the ornaments out on the table. We always have a handful participate. Rita McArther, Liz Annesley, and Laura Damberger are repeat offenders, and Joan Parker is our newbie this year.”

Teamwork

“Rita and Laura put hooks on the ornaments and helped direct their placement while Liz and Joan decked the trees,” says Ellie. “Normally I insist on being the one on the ladder. I hang the top bobbles and the residents give suggestions. I guess Liz wanted in on the action because this year she brought her own stepladder down so she could put some high ones up. I got to take the photos."
