Residents are more than ready for spring

March 9th, 2022

When spring begins officially in a few days, residents at Points West Living Drayton Valley will be ready. They have already started seeds indoors, and even those without a green thumb are helping things along by decorating clay pots.

A long, tremendously cold winter

“After what feels like an especially long, tremendously cold winter, we are hopeful that spring is on its way,” says office administrator, Lydia Carter. “When PWL Drayton Valley was still in the construction phase, one goal we had was to incorporate gardening into our community. Residents are helping make this goal a reality.”

Resident Jeanne Olsen (pictured above) took the lead by starting several seed trays. She planted lupins, asters, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Other residents helped out by painting pots for flowers to be transplanted into once they’re ready.

Painting pots and discussing art

“While painting pots, the group discussed art,” says Lydia. “Several residents, and their family members, are experienced artists and had painted frequently prior to joining us at PWL Drayton Valley. It is so nice to have the opportunity to gather and learn about each other as we complete projects together that bring us joy.”

“We are looking forward to the warmer weather when we can get outside with our plants to continue to help them grow.”
