New friends love to walk and talk

March 8th, 2022

One of the newest members of the Points West Living Peace River community has struck up a walking friendship with her new neighbour. The two can be found walking and chatting a circuit of the halls, cheerfully greeting other residents and employee care partners.

Let's go for a stroll...

“One afternoon, shortly after Connie Johnson moved in to PWL Peace River, she noticed her neighbour Sheila Antonietti sitting in her suite watching TV,” says office administrator, Cathy Mika. “So, she started up a conversation with her and asked if she wanted to go for a stroll.”

“Each time they are out walking, they make sure to stop by and say hi,” says Cathy. “One afternoon while they were walking through the lobby, Connie told me, ‘I love to walk. I used to do it all the time. I cannot wait for it to warm up outside’, and Sheila piped up, ‘We’re just going to check things out. See what kind of trouble we can find!’”

Lovely friendship

“They are the cutest pair,” says Cathy. “When I asked for a picture Connie says ‘Oh yes, take a picture before I go get my hair done.’ Needless to say I re-took it the next day.”

Cathy says this lovely friendship is an illustration of at least two Eden Principles: We thrive when we have easy access to the companionship we desire; this is the antidote to loneliness. And, we thrive when we have purpose and the opportunity to give, as well as receive; this is the antidote to helplessness.
