The Gift of Giving fills 'blessing bags' from Drayton Valley

March 23rd, 2023

Every Friday employee care partners at Points West Living Drayton Valley choose to donate two dollars for the freedom of wearing jeans to work—a year-round tradition that raises donation monies for charitable organizations in the community of Drayton Valley.

For National Acts of Kindness Day this year, the money from the jeans day fund was used to buy supplies for residents and care partners to make blessing bags to donate to a local outdoor pantry that serves those who are unhoused and facing food scarcity.

Everyone participated in the effort—from residents and family members to employee care partners. They all gathered in the kitchen to form an assembly line to make sandwiches and snacks and toiletry kits that comprised the ‘blessing bags’.  Every bag contained a positive note for each recipient of the bags.

Residents took the opportunity to reminisce while they worked in the kitchen and talk about how rewarding it feels to give care to others.

One resident shared that feeding people always made her feel good, which was the reason she always liked working in food services at many care communities during her working life.

Principle 4: We thrive when we have purpose and the opportunity to give, as well as receive. This is the antidote to helplessness.
