A parade brings pride in Vegreville

September 5th, 2023

Bruce Cox glides by on his snazzy scooter.

“Heritage House: Where Seniors Become Younger.”

That’s what the sign read on Bruce Cox’s scooter as he proudly took part in the Vegreville Country Fair parade on August 9, 2023. For a year, the resident of Points West Living Heritage House had been planning his “float,” choosing red and white to pop against his scooter’s bright blue. Finally, the day came!

With the parade route passing right by Heritage House, residents made their way to find spots on the street in front of the building.

“Tractors, floats and vintage cars passed by, much to the amusement of residents and care partners,” said Kristen Gusnowski, Recreation Aide. “We eagerly waited for Bruce to make his way so we could enjoy his decorated scooter, along with the care partners that joined him in the parade.”

Not surprisingly, Bruce was the star of the parade for the PWL community. “The joy that Bruce felt could be seen on his face as he proudly paraded by,” said Kristen. “We could tell how much it meant to him to be in the parade.”

With joyful, out-of-the-ordinary experiences like this, it’s no wonder Bruce states that Heritage House seniors become younger!
